BMC Software to Present at ITSMF

Company to Demonstrate Leadership Expertise in Configuration Management Database

HOUSTON, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- BMC Software, Inc. (NYSE:BMC), a leading provider of enterprise management solutions, today announced that it is participating in the ITSMF Conference with three interactive presentations and a booth. The ITSMF Conference, held in Chicago, September 19-21, focuses on providing IT Service Management best practices and standards. BMC Software, in booth #501, will be giving demos of their Service Impact and Event Management, Incident and Problem Management, Capacity Management and Change and Configuration Management solutions. Additionally, BMC Software will be demonstrating its BMC(R) Atrium Configuration Management Database (CMDB). These solutions enable companies to move beyond traditional IT management to better control their critical services from a business perspective, as part of BMC Software's Business Service Management (BSM) strategy.

BMC Software is the first enterprise management software vendor to release a purpose-built, ITIL inspired CMDB, addressing the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) requirement for a single, enterprise CMDB to ensure data consistency and simplify integration between differing service management processes. With this factory architected CMDB, BMC Software delivers an open, integrated, and flexible tool that will enable customers to more effectively manage their IT environment; from tracking asset lifecycles to managing the risk associated with change to responding to customer service issues.

As part of its contribution to the ITSMF knowledge base, BMC Software's booth will feature a presentation by Malcom Fry, recognized IT industry luminary and author of four ITIL books, on Sept. 19th titled, "The Magnificent Seven - Why You need to Include All Seven Core ITIL Books for Success," and "Mission Impossible -- Why You Can't Get to ISO 20,000." Additionally, Peter Armstrong, BMC Software Corporate Strategist, will present on Sept. 19th on "Don't Tell Me Why -- Show Me How" on the topic of how to achieve BSM. Tom Bishop, Chief Technology Officer for BMC Software, will present on Sept. 19th in Room E351 on "Why You Need a Configuration Management Database -- Where ITIL Fits In." Bishops presentation will outline best practices for implementing a CMDB based upon IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL(R)) goals. The session will review the features that a CMDB needs, including a flexible data model, partitioning of configurations, reconciliation of configurations, and open data access. It will explain how each of these features contributes to an overall configuration management solution that will allow IT organizations to provide the best service possible. Attendees will learn, why they need a CMDB and what it will accomplish, what key features and capabilities should be included in a CMDB, the best approach for using a CMDB based on their environment, and what processes they should use to help develop a CMDB.
